Not Now John it’s Euphonic Dissonance approaching Pink Floyd

by on Feb.22, 2011, under MUSIC, POLITICS, TECH MESSIAH, UPDATES

Brian brings news on Euphonic Dissonance’s newest endeavor –

PINK FLOYD - progressive rock band

Euphonic Dissonance will be taking on the kings of progressive rock – Pink Floyd – by covering their hit song “Not Now John”. Some of you are no doubt shaking your heads and asking “which Pink Floyd song is that? I don’t remember that one. Why don’t they just cover that WE DON’T NEED NO EDUCATION song?” Well here’s a video to refresh your memory because we love you.

Still some of you that aren’t hard core Floyd fans are still shaking your head and that’s okay. “Not Now John” is not one of Pink Floyd’s more popular tracks. Featured on the FINAL CUT album – it was the only single to be released from that album and upon release it was butchered by the censors because it contained the word FUCK. In the music video for the song the phrase FUCK ALL THAT is changed to STUFF ALL THAT. Lame – so lame.

I chose “Not Now John” for multiple reasons.

First and foremost – I must confess I am a huge Roger Waters fan. Yeah, I’m one of those Floydian snobs that won’t listen to anything that doesn’t have Roger on it. Yes, sad but true. I like the other stuff but I just haven’t had the willpower to get any of it on album or single. I know I’m going to catch hell for saying that and I look forward to your scathing remarks. But I just really enjoy the lyrical rantings of Roger Waters and for me the Final Cut album was his greatest work with Pink Floyd – perhaps his greatest work ever. The lyrics, written by Roger Waters, deal with war (particularly the Falklands War) and criticism of UK prime minister Margaret Thatcher (called Maggie in the song), as well as general criticisms of the greed and corruption that Waters saw as dangers to society. Being an America citizen and having witnessed THE GREAT AMERICAN EMPIRE stretch across the globe I have no problem understanding exactly where Roger was coming from when he wrote this in 1983. He was angry with his government much the same way many of us in America are angry with our government now. This brilliant expression of hostility towards corrupt institution and the grand display of political statement are a huge reason I chose this song.

Secondly, we’re a progressive industrial rock band – we had to do at least one progressive rock cover song. You understand – don’t you? Just living up to the namesake.

And third, I’ve always been astounded by the guitar work of David Gilmore and this gives me a chance to do a very poor rendition of his work. His solo in this song is thrilling to hear and I only hope that I can get somewhat close to that feeling in my performance. All that string bending sh*t hurts the fingers!!!! But it will be worth it.

You can expect to hear this new song very soon. Bass drum and organ tracks have been recorded and I’m in the process of adding the guitar. In the meantime here are the lyrics for “Not Now John”.

Euphonic Dissonance re-imagines Ministry’s Psalm 69

by on Nov.22, 2010, under MOVIES | TELEVISION, MUSIC, UPDATES

Great news. Euphonic Dissonance will be working on a re-thinking of Ministry’s song “Psalm 69”. We’re going to be submitting our little tidbit into this fine contest put together by Tunecore and Ministry. We are so frikkin’ pumped about this.

Paul Barker (bass guitarist, producer and engineer for Ministry) is providing bass tracks and all the samples for producing the song. He’ll also be judging the contest. Our stuff is going to be heard by one of the founding members of Ministry whether we win or not – again folks – THIS IS HUGE!!!! If we win the contest our song will be included on the companion album to the film.

Here is the original song and corresponding video.

If video not displayed – CLICK HERE to hear Ministry’s PSALM 69

So here is a sample of the track that we are currently working on for the contest. It’s very rough but should give you a feel for where this is going.

Sorry about that chaotic ending to the song. If you actually made it to the end there is a chaotic little mistake that’s quite loud and abrasive. Well, that’s all for now. I imagine you’ll hear more on our progress very soon. So, Ministry fans – what’s your favorite Ministry song?

INSIDE STUDIO – Hear Two New Unfinished Songs

by on Oct.18, 2010, under MUSIC, TECH MESSIAH, UPDATES

Haven’t posted anything from the Tech Messiah recording sessions in awhile so we thought we would give you some of the newest stuff that we’re working on. Here’s a couple of brand spankin’ new tracks that need a whole lot of work. They aren’t complete songs yet so there will be a rather abrupt fadeout when they end but we wanted to give you something juicy and let you know that we are still hard at work on this album. Give them a listen and then tell us what you think.

EuphonicDissonanceUnfinishedTrack2

The first track – love where that one is going. The second track – not so much so but it might grow on us. Please give us your opinion on these new songs. Thanks. Love you all.

Alternative Radio In Tulsa Oklahoma Circa 1990 – 1995

by on Apr.11, 2009, under MUSIC

I found this video online and just had to post it to our blog. If you were into the alternative music scene in the early 90’s and you lived in Tulsa and you listened to the radio you probably heard this.

That was alternative radio in the early 90’s before alternative became mainstream. God, I miss that radio station. That’s Mother Theresa bringing you the newest in progressive and alternative music from the radio station KCMA The Edge Of Insanity EOI.

If you’re wondering what Theresa is doing now….well…..she seems to run this website

Music – Here’s what I think………

by on Apr.06, 2009, under MUSIC

I  love it when people ask me what kind of music I like. You see….there isn’t really a genre of music that I don’t like. I’m not one of those people that says I love rap and r&b but I can’t stand country. I’m open to all types of music in all genres. There are so many flavors of music that I want to try them all. I believe that I can learn something from anything I’m exposed to no matter how new or old. I hate it when people say that they don’t like a certain type of music because it’s too old or it’s not the newest thing.

I cringe when I hear people say – “This new music don’t make no damn sense to me. It’s all noise. The singer don’t make no sense. And what the hell is up with them rappers. They ain’t even singing….they just saying the words. Hell, that ain’t no music at all.” I can’t tell you how much this kind of statement makes my brain hurt. Why must people be so damn closed minded? I hate to be the one to break this to you but the music of your generation was not the best music ever made!!!!

Then there are the people that live under the ridiculous notion that listening to certain types of music can influence you to do all sorts of terrible things (kill other humans, do drugs, commit suicide, have unprotected sex with your sister, etc). If you do this sort of thing after listening to a particular album then you have serious self esteem issues. Don’t blame the musician for your lack of frickin’ judgement. Musicians can create works of fiction in the same way an author creates a book of fiction. If you choose to take it to heart and kill yourself over it that’s your problem.

The human race is so narrow minded. We don’t see much further back than the past decade. We consider music from the 80’s as old or classic. This sort of focus makes me sad. Let’s try to broaden our musical horizon. Look outside the box.
